The Least Developed Countries (LDC) initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR) is an initiative that aims to support a shift away from 'business-as-usual' approaches to a more effective and ambitious climate response.
LIFE-AR serves as one of the primary vehicles for delivering the LDCs 2050 Vision for a climate-resilient future.
It is well remembered that representatives from LDC 'frontrunner' countries and supporting partners signed the ‘Partnership Compact’ to support the achievement of the LDCs 2050 Vision through LIFE-AR during COP25 in Madrid, in 2021.
Least developed countries (LDCs) have witnessed that to overcome the pressing and unprecedented challenge of climate change, a long-term focus is required, in order to ensure that resilience and adaptation are consistently built over time.

So far, all over the least developed world, climate responses have been short-term, projectized and sectoral, with limited impact. However, climate actions are often requiring long-term, cross-sectorial and multi-level support.
LIFE-AR is an initiative taken by developed world countries to support the least developed countries to adapt climate induced crisis which will end until 2050. Currently, about four countries (USA, Finland Scotland and the UK) have signed the compact for financing the initiative and that about 7 LDC countries are selected as frontrunners to pilot an adaptation project of which Ethiopia is one.
In a move to materialize the pilot implementation of LIFE-AR initiative in Ethiopia, a group of technical experts have meet at Hotel HYATT-Regency, Addis Ababa to prepare a Plan that integrate Adaptation, Mitigation and Resilience of the local community.
Speaking at the official opening of the event, Director general for the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Dr. Getahun Garedew expressed his appreciation of their attendance and that he mentioned Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to implement the initiative as per the agreement set at the very outset.
