H.E. Dr. Getahun Garedew, Director-General of the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority (EEPA) had a fruitful discussion with H.E. Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The discussion was focused on how UNEP can support Ethiopia’s constitutional aspiration to ensure a safe and clean environment for all its citizens. H.E. Dr. Getahun Garedew briefly explained Ethiopia’s environmental priorities and practical interventions on the ground.

For her part, H.E.Ms. Inger has praised what the government of Ethiopia is doing in the fight against triple environmental crises, namely, climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste, domestically and beyond.
H.E. also mentioned that the Green Legacy Initiative is a clear demonstration of Ethiopia’s exemplary leadership in addressing climate change, and forest and land degradation. She has stressed that UNEP will continue to work with Ethiopia on various environmental issues, including addressing plastic pollution and greening the court in Ethiopia.
