Environmental Education DepartmentPlanning for Accelerated sustainable development to end poverty.Implementation strategy The objective of the department is to: - Promote and enhance environmental education and awareness through formal, non-formal and informal
systems by means of:
- Workshops, trainings, seminars
- Disseminating varieties of awareness raising
printed materials such as magazines, brochures,
leaflets, posters etc?
- Electronic media such as TV, Radio etc.
- Integration of environmental issues in the
educational systems at all levels.
- Encourage the participation and efforts of all takeholders
engaged in environmental protection and management
to bring attitudinal and behavioral change of the general
public for the resolution of environmental problems of the
country.
Major Responsibilities are to:
- Raise environmental awareness of the general public on
the interactions among the factors within the eco-
System, through the use of various electronic and printed
media and incorporation and environmental issues in the
formal education system at all levels.
- Conduct non-formal environmental education to
enhance the knowledge, skill and commitment of the
public for improved environmental protection, natural
resource conservation and utilization through seminars,
workshops and exhibitions etc.
- Promote informal awareness raising activities through
production of promotional materials such as magazine,
news letter, brochure, leaflet, poster etc.
- Organize and conduct environmental training to enhance
the skill of professionals engaged in environmental
protection and management.
- Conduct awareness raising campains through celebration
of environment days such as World Environment Day,
Desertification Day, Africa Environment Day, etc.
Environmental Education Sub Target Implementation
Strategy
Five years plan of action
- National Environmental awareness implementation
srategy will be developed by the Federal Environmental
Protection Authority. The necessary budget for the
development of the strategy will be solicited from the
government.
- Regional Environmental Protection Bureaus will develop
their strategy based on the national strategy.
- Environmental Education and awareness guidelines will
be prepared by the Federal Environmental Protection
Authority and Regional Bureaus will prepare their own
guidelines based on their current specific situation.
- Environmental Education and Awareness action plan which
would help to implement the strategy, will be developed
by the Federal Environmental Protection Authority. The
budget needed for the implementation of the programme
will be solicited from the government and other sources.
- Federal Environmental protection authority will produce
awareness raising materials and programmes and
disseminate information. Regional bureaus too will
produce awareness raising materials and programs. They
also disseminate materials sent from Federal EPA to the
public and institutions.
- Regional Bureaus will evaluate Environmental Education
and awareness activities and submit yearly report to the
Federal Environmental protection Authority.
- Environmental management training will be provided to
regional professionals based on the training needs of the
Regions and budget they allocate for training purpose.
- Regional environmental institutions will establish and
strengthen environmental clubs both in schools and
outside.
- Regional Bureaus will evaluate the formal Environmental
Education which is delivered from grade 1-4 and
incorporate the evaluation result and improve the
curriculum accordingly.
- Environmental Education and awareness program will
be transmitted by radio and television and the necessary
budget will be allocated for the transmission.
- National Environmental Education and Awareness
promotion program partners? forum and network will be
established.
- Similarly, Regional Environmental Education and
Awareness promotion program partner?s forum and
network will be established.
